Protect Our Rivers and Astral are rallying their community of adventurers to participate in a nationwide cleanup effort to protect the outdoor places we love. On Saturday, September 18th, National Cleanup Day, they are hosting a DIY cleanup event, creating a virtual participation option for people across the country to get involved.
Astral and Protect Our Rivers share the belief that nature comes first and that all land and waterways need our protection. Both companies orchestrate cleanup initiatives throughout the year, and Astral is constantly designing and innovating products that have the lowest impact on the environment.
While thousands of companies have committed to reducing waste, more work needs to be done to combat the current plastic pollution crisis. Recent studies have predicted that at current rates, plastic will outweigh all the fish in the sea by 2050 (World Economic Forum, 2016).
"Rivers and the outdoors provide us with so many incredible experiences. We rely on them for our livelihood and our most critical resources," adds Sarah Nelson, Founder of Protect Our Rivers. "I want future generations to have access to outdoor adventures and opportunities to discover the solace, adventure and beauty that nature provides us all. To make that happen, we need to do our part to protect them."
This DIY cleanup event aims to pick up as much trash as possible as a community and make a significant impact in combating plastic pollution, preserving the places we love for future generations.
"We are excited to partner with Protect Our Rivers, on a cleanup event where people can participate no matter where they are," says Caitlin Bjornstad, Astral's Community Manager. "We've put the tools and resources in place for participants to have a successful DIY cleanup. Picking up an outdoor space that matters to you is an effective way to leave the outdoors better than you found it."
