TAKE ACTION TO PROTECT PUBLIC LANDS

ree

Last week, the Senate released text of a major spending package, which included a proposal to sell off about 3 million acres of public land. Nearly 300 million acres of public lands could be open for these proposed sales, an area that includes nearly 100,000 miles of trails, more than 45,000 climbing routes and boulder problems, and 3,405 river miles across the West.

Please email your senators by Thursday, June 26th to express your opposition to the sale of public lands. You can either email your senator through a form from the Outdoor Alliance or directly by following the steps below.

I am writing to express my strong opposition to the disposal or sale of public lands and rollbacks of commonsense oil and gas reforms. I ask that you do not endorse any budget reconciliation bill or future legislation that includes sales of public lands, reinstates non-competitive leasing, and eliminates reasonable restrictions against speculative leasing. Further, I urge you to support strong funding for federal resource agencies and programs that are critical for supporting our public lands and water.

Our shared public lands support countless fish and wildlife species, provide clean, cold water and offer incredible outdoor recreation opportunities that help heal people and make their lives more enjoyable. Public lands and waters are essential and need to be protected for future generations to come.

As our country seeks to increase domestic energy production, it’s more important than ever to ensure responsible oil and gas development on public lands. As a public land user and constituent, I ask lawmakers to defend balanced oil and gas policies that protect America’s lands and waters. In the reconciliation package, please support responsible energy development policies that steer development away from sensitive trout habitats and preserving fiscally responsible policies like restrictions on noncompetitive leasing and avoiding actions that would increase speculative leasing.

Please also reject proposals to eliminate critical funding to resource agencies and provisions that would undo locally driven administrative land management decisions.

Thank you for standing with your constituents who paddle, hike, swim, fish and, hunt, and cherish our public lands.
